Before and After Bio — Which is Better?

Bye-Bye Boring Bio Success Story 2 Comments

Sharing your bio with someone who is meeting you online for the first time can be eye opening.

Here is a bio that was shared with me by email in anticipation of a recent teleclass.   What I did upon receiving it was check out the website and see what more I could learn to help bring an even more compelling, credible story.  My goal was to search for the stunning results, the sassy sound bites, the succinct stories, and the social information to help ideal clients connect with this individual.

Here you will see the “before” bio provided by the teleclass guest and the “after” bio I created by skimming the website looking for the pearls.  Please note that I never spoke to this teleclass guest.  I upgraded her bio just by reviewing the content she made available on the web.   Most prospects don’t want to go hunting for all the good information.  After all, you only get one time to make a first impression.  My belief is you should tell your best story without having to ask people to look for more information.

In the “Before”  bio, the client only shares her first name.   She doesn’t immediately make clear who her target audience is.  She states what she believes, but she doesn’t offer proof from happy clients or the media that she delivers what she promises.  Stunning results are missing.  She also doesn’t mention whether or not she is happily married as proof that she is successful following her own advice.  The bio doesn’t make clear the primary ways that clients can engage with her.  The “after” bio addresses these missing pieces.

Before:

Catherine is a gifted teacher, speaker, seminar leader and coach who has been helping people find True Love for over 30 years.  She believes that the Truest of Love is Self Love and that Self Love is Irresistible.  Support successful single women in their 40’s and 50’s who can manifest everything but love, Catherine shows them how to attract the highest and best in the men they meet.  She likes to call herself the Soul Mate Magician because she teaches a woman to give her heart away and keep it at the same time.   Ready for magic?  Check out https://AttractYourSoulMateNow.com.

After Extreme Bio Makeover

Successful single women in their 40’s and 50’s from all over the USA who can manifest everything BUT love are happily singing the praises of Soul Mate Magician Catherine Behan.  Catherine’s unique take on the Law of Attraction has guided hundreds of women to stop getting dumped and start loving life by inviting the highest and the best from the men they meet.  Catherine discovered her gift for bringing out the best in people seeking love as as a 12-year-old who had an intuitive ability to wave her magic wand to bring the right people together.  Today — through workshops, private coaching, and radio interviews — this modern-day Cupid joyfully spreads her magic dust to show love seekers how to find what they are looking for in themselves and others so they can live happily ever after at long last.  Happily married to her soul mate, Catherine has “been there and done that to find and nurture true love.” She can’t wait to show you how so you can, too.  Visit www.attractyoursoulmatenow.com to learn more.

Authentic Visibility Question of the Day: How do you think these two bios compare?  Is the “after” bio better?   And if you believe it is, tell me why.  More importantly, does your bio showcase the essential pearls about what you bring to your ideal clients so they learn everything they need to know and want to pick up the phone, visit your website, or meet you in person to explore winning ways to work together?   If not, take another shot at telling your story to inspire action among your ideal clients.   It’s a great exercise that delivers results you will feel in your business.  I promise!

Two Weeks on the Market and a Price Reduction Today in Time for Open House Tomorrow from 1 – 4 p.m.

Selling a Home in 2010 No Comments

We want to sell our Bellevue, WA home in the Somerset neighborhood, so we decided to drop the price from $650,000 to $630,000.   Nothing would make us happier than for one of those motivated first-time buyers to come on in and purchase this home in time to benefit from the new home buyer tax credit that expires on April 30.

There have been a number of homes in our neighborhood that have sold at around this price point in the last couple of weeks, and we heard that at least one of them received more than one offer.   That means there are definitely buyers out there.  If you are one of them, this home is a peach.  It is lovingly cared for, tastefully updated, and in move-in condition.     The “honey do” list is beyond complete!  Check it out. The open house is tomorrow from 1 – 4 p.m.   Come on by and set the intention that THIS is your new dream home to set the stage for many happy family memories still to come.   And, wouldn’t you want to surrender in this gracious master bath at the end of a great day?

Media Moment Coach Janet Vasil Offers Timely and Timeless Tips for Inviting TV Interest in Your Story

Broadcast Media Training No Comments

Earning broadcast attention for your product, cause, expertise, or event can make a big difference in the results you enjoy in your business.  Today I am happy to introduce a new guest blogger to Authentic Visibility who can elaborate with a great deal of credibility on this particular subject.  Janet Vasil is an award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 25 years experience as an anchor, reporter, producer, host and voice-over narrator in radio and television news and information programming.  When your needs call for someone with this experience, Janet Vasil is one very talented professional to have on your team.  This is the first of a periodic series of blog posts Janet will be sharing to upgrade your broadcast publicity skills.  Your comments about this and all posts at this blog are always welcome and appreciated, so let me hear from you!

Take it away Janet!

Local television news is what they call in a sellers market in real estate. Because the station has what you want — free publicity — they can ask for a lot and they’ll get it. Here are a few things to consider when pitching TV news people.

Think visually. No matter how great your story is, if the reporter can’t imagine what the video will be, they’ll pass. If you call or send an email pitch that says, “CEO Bob of ABC company is holding a news conference about the new electric doo-wop,” that’s a big yawn. News conferences make bad video.  But if it’s “CEO Bob of ABC company is unveiling the new electric doo-wop with a factory tour for members of the media and the opportunity to drive the new doo-wop,” now they “see” a story for TV.

Make it easy for them. Local television news crews work on extremely tight deadlines, often with multiple deadlines, throughout the day. They want to shoot everything they need quickly and easily. Think of it like “One Stop Shopping.” They don’t have time to drive across town, picking up a sound bite here and some video there. If you pitch them a story that’s all in one place, they’re more likely to do it.

Be ready to go. If you are pitching a local connection to a big story breaking in the region, state or nation or a story that’s a localized sidebar to a major hot story making news, the TV station may want to come out right away or in a few hours to shoot it. Be sure your business calendar is clear. If you say, “That’s not a convenient time.” or “I’ll get back to you when I can do it,” forget it.

Be honest. Deliver what you promise. Getting a TV crew to come to your business or event with empty hype (Brad Pitt is invited) can backfire. Be an honest expert with a solid story and offer to act as an industry resource on future stories. That’s the way to build a relationship and can lead to more publicity.

Media Momentum Coach Janet Vasil uses her more than 25 years experience as a radio/TV anchor, reporter and producer to help women entrepreneurs, authors, service professionals and other experts step into the spotlight, reach out to the media and profit from free publicity on TV, radio and the “virtual” airwaves.  For more information, visit this link.

Counting the Minutes to Buy My Ticket to Oprah’s “Live Your Best Life” Event in NYC

I don’t have a lot of things on my “bucket list,” but meeting Oprah Winfrey is one of them. Five Easy Ways to Make Your Media Coverage Work Harder for You and Your Growing Business

Media Savvy 101 No Comments

If you or your company been seen, heard, and celebrated in the media, what can you do to make the most of your media moment?  Here are five easy things to act upon to leverage your good news that will deliver meaningful dividends.

1) Post your story link to your online press room so the news is available on a 24/7 basis to reporters and others interested in your story.  If you don’t yet have an online press room, consider launching one soon.  It will save you lots of time preparing for media interviews, while giving you the peace of mind that your story is being told accurately.    If you don’t yet have an online press room, visit this link to learn about the service I use.

2) Share the link in your ezine or direct mail newsletter so your best clients and prospects can read all about you and be inspired to share the good news with people who can be great referral sources for you and your good work.

3) Share your good news via the social networks where you participate to invite notes of congratulations, phone calls, emails, and other replies that just might invite more of the right opportunities.

4) Update your bio to showcase that you and/or your company have been profiled in a prestigious media outlet.

5) Create a custom signature for your outgoing emails that makes it easy for clients and prospects to read about your good news and remark upon it.

Leveraging your good news is the key to opening doors to new opportunities.   One day you are quoted within the pages of the local business journal.  Tomorrow, that good press might be enough to help you earn coverage within the pages of USA Today.  Remember, one good thing often leads to another, and that is a beautiful thing.

Authentic Visibility Question of the Day: What ways have you used your good press to earn even better opportunities and more credibility for your products, services, and business?  Share your ideas so the readers can profit from the wisdom and creativity of your experience.

One Media Query Leads to Three Interviews and More

Publici-Tea™ Graduate Success Story 4 Comments

If you haven’t yet signed up for Blogger Link Up, I hope this blog post compels you into action.  It’s a free service, and you can click on the link to read more about it.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a post on Blogger Link Up from Janet Vasil of Your Media Moment and Beyond.  She was seeking business owners to interview about how publicity was playing a part in their success.   I responded and recommended she speak to three people I know who are having a fair amount of success.

The end result was that she interviewed all three of them.  Visit this link to listen to interviews with Publici-Tea™ Graduates Debbie Rosemont and Betsy Talbot and my good friend and co-collaborator Amber Singleton Riviere who is host of the Rock Your Genius radio show, among other things.

And, here is another great outcome from that connection.   As I was checking out Janet’s website before I made my pitch to her media query, I couldn’t help but marvel at her broadcast expertise.   I sent her an email and invited a conversation for relationship.   We hit it off right away.

Very shortly, Janet will be guest blogging at Authentic Visibility to elaborate about the best ways to use broadcast media to tell your story.   She’s got the track record and the insights to share, and I know it’s going to be great.

One good thing often leads to another.   In this case, a simple query on Blogger Link Up helped three great gals earn their media moment, and it also helped me connect with a quality resource to serve your broadcast media training needs in a deeper way.

Everyone is a winner, and that is the point.  Love that.

Three Repeat Visits to the Home For Sale Today, Lots of Traffic, and Lots of Warm Feedback

Selling a Home in 2010 1 Comment

We had the second open house for our Bellevue, WA home for sale in the Somerset neighborhood today.  We had 22 couples come through.  Three of them were folks who came back again to take a second look.  The feedback on the home is very positive.   That is heartening.

Here is what I believe.  The perfect, qualified, respectful, and motivated buyer will soon emerge to offer a market appropriate price to love the home as we did for 20 years as they raise their family and close by May 19, 2010 or sooner.  That is my affirmation.  I believe it.  And I keep repeating it.

What we think about manifests three months from now.  Plenty of success experts share this advice, and I believe them.  And this advice applies to everything in life and business.

What do you want to manifest three months from now?  Describe it in specific detail.  Believe it.  And act to make it so.
