Just for Fun
Words are my favorite currency, and I’ve been reflecting a bit on my favorites — especially when it comes to showing up and loving my life and work the most. Among the words I love most are noted below, matched with their opposite. My intention is to have these words be TRUE for how I show up everywhere I go and in all that I do.
I encourage you to list YOUR favorite words, brainstorm their opposites, and commit to showing up as YOUR favorite words. These words can also show up in your bio, web copy, and other marketing collateral elements to speak your truth.
For the word wizards who are reading this, I think you’ll find this fun. For everyone else, dig in and make an attempt. Better yet, ask your best clients what words they use to describe you. There is story gold there, and when you weave those words into your marketing materials, your message will ring loud and true. Best of all, your message will help extend a golden lasso around the people you here to help with your work in the world. Try it and see how well it works.

So, George Huang and I are having an engaged conversation last night by webinar with people all around the world about rapid revenue acceleration. There is a way for participants to ask questions. There are slides to view. There are bonus links to useful materials to access. Everything is going beautifully and as promised in all of the pre-event materials.
And then one of the callers types in, “You are a phony” as a comment for George.
First of all, nothing to be more untrue Secondly, what was this person THINKING to type in such a harsh remark?
While the Internet may give some people the impression that anything goes, here is what I believe. Behind every Internet front door is a REAL PERSON who is working hard to deliver value, impact, and information to guide others to some welcome outcome. Anyone who resorts to name calling on a public webinar is likely equally icky when folks meet them in person. And folks like that absolutely are not good candidates to be clients. How you do anything is how you do everything.
It is not a small thing to prepare quality content to share with thousands of people. It is not a small thing to invite an engaged audience to benefit from the information. There is tremendous preparation involved. There is also skill required to use the technology. Underscoring all of this is a deep desire to be of service and make a difference. And there is finesse involved to address hecklers like this unsavory person who showed up last night.
When the heckler spoke up, George just kept his eye on the goal and proceeded to deliver the value he promised. A true professional. And within my own heart, I felt a stab. All I could think of was, “Ouch.”
If you are a heckler, please think about the impact of your words before you type them. And to the person who made the comment, your name and email address have been removed from my list. You’ve demonstrated that you aren’t the kind of person I would like to do business with, so best wishes to you along your journey. You’ll need all the help you can get.

Bye-Bye Boring Bio Success Story, Event Promotion
What fun it was to open my private phone line yesterday to callers from around the world who wanted my take on how to make their bios better, live and in the moment. Yesterday was the FIRST TIME I offered office hours for “The Bio Doctor,” and folks are already asking when I can do it again.
After speaking one-on-one with 15 people in various stages of business start up and reinvention, I can summarize the key bio blunders to avoid for the callers who had the courage to dial in as follows:
Don’t bury the lead. That is the diagnosis from the first call. Lead with the WOW, and you’ll have them at hello.
Make sure there is an “about me” page on your website. The last caller wanted me to review his bio, and when I visited his site, there was no tab. Sometimes, the missing piece is hiding in plain sight. That is the lesson here.
When you have 160 characters on Twitter to say what you do, don’t stop short of saying what happens NEXT for folks when they belly up to the bar with you as their guide. So many people forget that. Don’t say you help people live with chronic pain. Say your proven approach guides people to live BETTER with pain in weeks, not months. Speak to the outcome you deliver in words that will compel your perfect client so want to invest wisely to enjoy the benefit or the relief.
Sometimes people chase shiny bright objects. When you do lots of things, clients can’t decide. That’s why thinking about the BOLD, BIG projects that are perfect and aligning your activities toward welcoming more of those is a good way to proceed. That is the lesson from this call just wrapping up now.
This caller was trying to make one bio fit all situations. What she really wants is to attract clients. And the typeface on her masthead with the WOW packed within has such fancy type that it is hard to read. Make the message more clear — and easy to read — even for people who are over 40 and need reading glasses.
