Women’s Media Summit Launches Today – Wow!

Media Savvy 101 No Comments

Check out this fabulous comment from one of the participants in the Women’s Media Summit which starts today:

“I just got my registration materials for the event. WOW! The PDF workbook alone is worth the price of admission. It’s beautiful in presentation and chock full of information and resources, as well as being an easy-to-read and follow guide to the presenters and their presentations. Some of the guests have included a lot of their information in the workbook. The five pages of resource links at the end are a wonderful completion to a great package. Thank you Heidi and ALL involved. With great appreciation.” — Sheila Finkelstein, www.PicturestoPonder.com.

Do You Suffer from Technology Overwhelm? Push Through It to Make Magic Happen in Your Business!

Business Success No Comments

With all the new ways to connect with others — web conferences, teleseminars, blogging, and beyond — I know I am not the only one who suffers from technology overwhelm from time to time. Technology can be friend or foe, depending on your comfort with it. I am committed to pushing through my discomfort to make friends and serve publicity seeking business owners here and beyond. And, I work with fabulous co-collaborators who love technology to compensate for my discomfort. Good things are happening, so I take heart and reward in that.

For example, the first day this blog debuted on August 30, the CEO of the Women’s Media Summit found me via a “Google Alert” for media experts, and she invited me to participate in the event as a presenter. On Friday, I’ll offer a web presentation using a web conference room for the first time. Read the rest…

What a Great Night to be Recognized

Awards PR 7 Comments

Last night was the big Nellie Cashman/Member of the Year banquet to honor women business owners. I had two minutes to tell my story to 300 people in attendance, and the warm reception I received from the audience was a powerful cue that my message was on target.

I am going to tell you a little story about love, the power of intention, the law of attraction, and the happily ever after now in progress. Read the rest…

Have You Signed Up for the Teleseminar on October 16? Plus, a Quick Note About Awards Events

Awards PR, Media Savvy 101 No Comments

There is still time to sign up for the October 16 teleseminar at 5 p.m. with Small Business Marketing Expert Stacy Karacostas. During this one-hour teleseminar, I’ll interview Stacy as she sheds light on these powerful ideas:

How to use marketing as your salesperson, so you don’t have to do the sales job yourself (if you hate sales or selling, you don’t want to miss this!).

Three things every piece of marketing must do to get people to pick up the phone, walk in the door, or pull out their credit card and hand it to you!

How to make sure you get amazing results from your marketing—without breaking your budget.

Four of the most common marketing mistakes that are guaranteed to cost you money—and sales.

The #1 thing every entrepreneur MUST do if they really want their marketing to work.

The answers to YOUR most pressing marketing questions!

Just click on this link to register, and you’ll be good to go:

And, wish me luck tonight. I am a finalist in the WBO Member of the Year competition. The gala event takes place tonight at the Seattle Westin. You can read more about the event at this link:

http://www.womenbusinessowners.org/doc/nelliecashman.htm

I always tell my clients that one of the best ways to get known is to enter awards contests that are well supported by the media, and I’ve been taking my own advice.

The WBO Nellie Cashman Woman Business Owner of the Year competition is in its 26th year. The finalists tend to run million dollar enterprises and don’t tend to be active members of the organization. This year, the organization added a Member of the Year category to honor the women who are running successful businesses, giving back to the community, and contributing to the organization for at least five years. There has been some press coverage about the award competition in Seattle Woman Magazine and the Bellevue Reporter. As a result, I have gotten plenty of emails, cards, and telephone calls of congratulations and a number of inquiries about my products and services. It’s all good. I’ll report back tomorrow about the results.

And I hope to hear from you that the teleseminar on October 16 is on your agenda. Stacy is great, and we’ll have a great time sharing great ideas to propel your business forward.

Marion Jones’ Fall From Grace – A Reminder to Always Do the Right Thing

Business Success No Comments

I’ve been a fan of the Olympic Games for as long as I can remember. That is why reading about track star Marion Jones’ fall from grace on the sports pages of several daily newspapers and plenty of broadcast stations gave me serious pause. She took performance enhancing drugs and lied about it for years. And her list of other mis-steps seems to be growing by the day as reporters dig in to learn more. The glare of the television cameras is sweet when the medals are placed around your neck, and the opposite is true when you do the wrong thing. Sadly, the disgrace will last forever as a result of the lasting impact of the media. As I said to my ten-year-old son after reading the papers last week, “Please, just always do the right thing. It’s never wrong to do that.”

My Day Office Earns Cable TV Coverage, Thanks to Media-Savvy-to-Go Tips

Local PR Success, Local Publicity No Comments

I received a fabulous telephone message last Friday night. Shauna Brennan, the founder of My Day Office, called to thank me again for providing media savvy tips that are supporting the launch of her new business. As a result of following those tips, Shauna created a press release and issued it to the local media. The result? Northwest Cable News did a 7:48 p.m. TV feature about her new business, bringing her offering to the awareness of news viewers on a Friday night multiple times across several TV news broadcasts that evening.

The first press release she wrote resulted in a front story business feature in the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Here is the link:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/323777_officespace16.html

The second press release she wrote delivered TV coverage. Now, her grand opening party is scheduled for October 17, and hopes are high for a great showing of support and many more opportunities to be of service. Great “ink and air” are waiting for those who get into action.

If you are curious about those sassy tips that have helped Shauna Brennan earn both “ink and air,” I invite you to visit this link to learn more: http://authenticvisibility.com/tips-booklets.

Shauna earned TV coverage and a front page business feature in exchange for her $10 investment. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, and I know Shauna couldn’t agree more.

Jean Thompson’s Powerful Lessons Learned While Growing Seattle Chocolate Co.

Business Success No Comments

Jean Thompson is the owner and CEO for Seattle Chocolate Company. The company manufactures and brings to market quality and beloved brands such as Frangos, Choxie, Chick Chocolates, and — of course — Seattle Chocolates truffle bars, which are now available in more than 8,000 grocery stores across the country. Her intention is to create an extraordinary company that makes it convenient for lovers of delicious, quality chocolate to get their daily fix wherever they live and shop. Since taking the helm at the company in late 2002, sales have more than tripled, the team has expanded to 75 employees, and the company has expanded its facilities to include a 65,000 square foot production and warehouse facility where everyone works collaboratively to create high quality, delicious chocolates that customers across the U.S. are proud to buy and share. Jean spoke before the members and guests of the Women Business Owners organization last Thursday and offered a number of valuable lessons learned while growing her company. Here are some of them:

Take chances and make changes. Remember, problems you inherit at launch will linger and fester if you don’t own them and act on them within 30 days. Don’t delay making tough decisions. Hire will and fire fast. Be straight with people.Keep focus on your core business, and leave the rest to the experts. Forget perfect. Done is better than perfect every time. Managing growth is demanding and revealing. For women, business is personal. Be authentic. Be clear about what you value. Stay focused on what matters. Keep learning from your mistakes. “I don’t mind making mistakes, but shoot me when I stop learning from them.” Enjoy yourself and enjoy good chocolate.

These are powerful lessons for anyone. Take heed and proceed, chocolates in hand.
